What is the Workforce Investment Act Grant?

WORKFORCE plus has been awarded funding to provide area jobseekers an opportunity to obtain career advancing training in an effort to increase their marketable skills. Funding is available for up to $5,000 per eligible individual.

How do I apply and am I eligible?

To be eligible to participate, you must meet income eligibility requirements and one of the following criteria listed below:

  1. Unemployed and/or laid off
  2. Underemployed
  3. Receiving public assistance

What is the Healthcare Community Challenge?

WORKFORCE plus has been awarded a $300,000 grant from Workforce Florida Inc. to provide area job seekers an opportunity to receive free training to become Pharmacy Technicians or Health Information Technicians.

Funding for the Healthcare Community Challenge is provided through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act signed by President Obama in February 2009. The Act has a number of strategic elements that are designed to help stimulate the economy and create or sustain jobs.

Did you know?

  1. Employment for Health Information Technicians is expected to increase 18% and for Pharmacy Technicians by 32% through 2016
  2. The salary for Health Information Technicians range from $22,420 to $35,990 and Pharmacy Technicians earn between $10.10 to $14.92 an hour
  3. During the 2008 Legislative session Senate Bill 1360 was passed requiring all pharmacy technicians to register with the pharmacy board by 2010 and by 2011 requires pharmacy technicians to have completed an approved pharmacy technician training program
